News from 2008

December 2008

The first day of this month brought snow to some areas in our county and cold weather to all.  We hope everyone is prepared for the winter months ahead.  And also, please don't forget your animals outside.  By adding blankets or straw to their bedding, you'll be helping them to stay warm on the cold nights ahead.  If you have  livestock and/or horses, keep in mind that they require more food in the colder months to help them maintain their body heat.  If you have any questions regarding your animals or winter weather preparedness please contact us.  We'll be happy to answer your questions, or direct you to some one who can.

We at the Marion County EMA would like to wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday season.

Alabama Winter Weather Awareness Week

The National Weather Service and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency will observe the week of November 17 through November 19, 2008, as Winter Weather Awareness Week in Alabama as proclaimed by Governor Bob Riley.  For more information visit the National Weather Service's website

Pandemic Influenza

It's almost flu season and while we are all familiar with the "flu", Pandemic Influenza is something most of us are not familiar with.  We would like to encourage you to visit the Alabama Department of Public Health website to learn what you can do to plan and prepare for this possible event.  They have lots of helpful information and downloads available on Pandemic Influenza. Also, should you need them for your organization, we currently have brochures at our office, please call us at 921-4555, or email davery@marionsoal.com. We can get those out to you or have them ready for you to pick up. Thank you for working with us to keep our community as safe and prepared as possible.

August/September 2008

LA Hurricane Evacuees

As many of you know, we recently had several visitors during the Gustav evacuation. Everyone did a great job and thanks to the care and generosity of our citizens, local college and all the involved agencies and organizations,155 people were fed and well taken care of during their 6 day stay.  To list everyone that helped out would be impossible, but each and everyone of you have our thanks.
